The MRG Foundation Board of Directors is excited to announce that Sharon Gary-Smith has accepted the position as executive director of MRG Foundation.
Sharon is a native Oregonian who has worked locally and nationally for a more just world. She has extensive experience organizing for racial and economic justice, with a special focus on addressing health inequity and reproductive justice.
She has worked with many foundations over the years to get them more engaged with communities who otherwise wouldn’t have access to foundation dollars. She’s been a grants program officer, a leader with national and regional progressive funder networks, a foundation board member, and a long-time MRG supporter.
Sharon is a perfect fit for MRG at this point in our history. In recent years we’ve expanded our grantmaking to half a million dollars a year, created an innovative program to help grassroots groups strengthen their communications skills, and launched the Oregon Social Justice Funders Network.
We are poised to have a greater impact than ever. As an experienced fundraiser, a compelling communicator, and a nationally connected advocate for social justice philanthropy, Sharon has the skills and relationships needed to lead MRG into the future.
Sharon will be starting in her position later this summer, with Anita Rodgers continuing as the interim associate director to help our leadership transition go smoothly.
We look forward to welcoming Sharon publicly at our annual party in Eugene on August 7 at Eugene’s Alton Baker Park.
Join us in welcoming Sharon Gary-Smith to her new role at MRG!
