George Pillsbury

George founded the Haymarket Peoples Fund in Boston in 1974. He was a co-founder of the Funding Exchange in 1979 and served as its Director of Special Projects for six years. There he worked on the development of several new community funds who became Funding Exchange members. While at Haymarket, George was also a founding member of the Film Fund, the Cooperative Fund of New England and organized a concert with Bob Marley to benefit anti-apartheid efforts in South Africa.

Today, George serves as Executive Director of Nonprofit VOTE, a national organizations that provides training and resources for nonprofits to integrate voter engagement into their ongoing activities and services around elections, increasing voter participation among underrepresented populations. George’s work in the fields of philanthropy, social investing and voter and civic participation spans four decades. He has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.P.A. from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
